The PP went ahead on Thursday and passed its proposed bill to urgently reform Spain’s constitutional high court, the Tribunal Constitucional (TC), with the sole support of its electoral partner, UPN. The measure ignored the criticisms of the bill made by the opposition and, therefore, the amendments put forward, which in most cases, demand the elimination of certain modified articles.

The bill’s text, which was unseen by almost all of the opposition on the grounds that it would have been “unnecessary” and “unconstitutional” and because its sole aim is to incapacitate the acting Catalan president Artur Mas, decides when sentences issued by the TC have not been complied with. The bill will now go before the Senate for approval. The Constitutional Committee chose this Wednesday -before the bill was even passed in the Spanish parliament- for its members to study the details of the reform.
