Rajoy: "The independence of Catalonia will not happen, it is nonsense"
  • CA
The Spanish prime minister, Mariano Rajoy, insisted this Thursday morning that Catalonia will not become independent. In an interview with Cadena COPE, the PP leader stressed that “independence will not happen under any circumstances, it is nonsense.” Moreover, he added that if Catalonia had its own state “it would have to leave the European Union (EU).”

Rajoy, who hinted that the Spanish elections will be on December 20, pointed out that the PP government will react “with all the tools allowed by the rule of law.” Moreover, the Spanish prime minister suggested that he will always be in favour of a dialogue with the Catalan president, Artur Mas, but added that when “talking to someone promoting anything illegal, I have to refuse.”

As for the proposed bill put forward by PP to modify the regulations of the Tribunal Constitucional (TC), Rajoy stated that “it is a very good decision to ensure sentences are complied with.”
