C’s number two for Barcelona in the 26-J general election, Toni Roldán, sees the PP in talks with PSOE if the candidate looking for reelection, Mariano Rajoy, does not take a step backwards, as Albert Rivera has called on him to do. “Rajoy can always come to agreement with PSOE. He has an alternative, if he wants,” he said after the PP leader ruled out stepping down on Monday for the sake of governability.
Roldán once again dramatised the veto of his party on Rajoy: “Someone involved in corruption cases cannot lead the changes that Spain needs,” he said in restating the willingness of C’s to first reach agreement on a reformist “road map” before tackling the issue of “chairs”.
In a campaign event in front of the Rodalies train station in Mataró, the ‘orange’ candidate underlined the willingness of his party to reach an understanding with “the maximum number possible” of political projects in order to begin structural reform, such as the doing away of provincial councils or the reform of electoral law, among others.
“We will be open to talk to parties ready to make real changes, looking ahead, and not towards the left or right.” he added. Roldán insisted that Rajoy is not the right person to lead the regeneration that the State needs, given that he has “overseen a structurally corrupt party” like the PP.
