Iglesias: “I am prepared to stay out of government if it’s a problem for PSOE”
  • CA

The Podemos leader, Pablo Iglesias, confirmed this morning after meeting the secretary general of PSOE, Pedro Sánchez, that he is “ready to give up a place in the government if it is a problem for PSOE”. This would mean stepping backwards and allowing another member of his party to take up the deputy prime minister’s position, with Iglesias proposing Íñigo Errejón, Pablo Echenique or Carolina Bescansa as possible candidates as deputy prime minister.

The MP from the lilac party insisted that if it was just down to his party there would be an agreement tomorrow. Both leaders showed a mutual willingness “to continue with the talks” in the next few days to reach an agreement on the investiture. “Working from the electoral manifestos of both political parties is a good thing. In PSOE’s programme we see a lot of elements that could lead to agreement,” he said.??

For him, the most efficient way to a government is “exploring the 161 path”, which opts for a progressive coalition in the administration, rather than the “130”, which has failed in its attempt at forming a government. “Esquerra Unida and Compromís should be part of this coalition government,” he said.
